From 25 May 2018 all landlords need to ensure they are compliant with GDPR, this is a new legislation replacing the Data Protection Act, it has created new responsibilities for Landlords and businesses nationwide.
As a landlord you of course keep lots of records containing your tenant’s personal details such as their names, addresses and bank details. Here we provide some helpful information about how this new legislation will impact you, and explain what you need to do to protect yourself, and your tenant’s data.

Ensure you keep all the details about your tenants secure by password protecting files. Only share personal details of your tenants with professional firms as stated in the AST, such as utility companies and local authorities.
Communicating with your tenants
Tenants must be informed that you will be keeping information about them whilst they are your tenant, you must be clear about this from the outset.
